From 4th grade to 12th grade, ALL Garnet Valley students are invited to learn a musical instrument in our BAND or ORCHESTRA programs. You will get free lessons and instruction on any of the standard band/orchestra instruments. New members are ALWAYS welcome, in any grade. Read on to learn more!

➡️ Band & Orchestra is of the most popular activities in Garnet Valley school district. Hundreds of students are part of band and orchestra each year, so you’re joining a big, fun community.
➡️ You actually play cool music. You’ll learn songs you recognize and perform in concerts and events that people love to watch.
➡️ It’s social. You make friends, work as a team, travel, perform, and represent your school with pride and school spirit.
➡️ It helps you succeed. Students in music programs tend to do better in school and build skills like focus, confidence, and teamwork that carry over into everything else.

All beginners are encouraged to attend our Beginner Kick-Start Summer Camp, July 6–9, 2026. Save the date! The registration deadline is in March and comes before instrument fittings, and that’s totally fine. You do not need to choose an instrument yet.

Meet The Instruments
Choosing an instrument is a very personal thing! Your music teacher will help you find the right fit.
Some students click right away with certain instruments. For example, one might pick up a flute and get a great sound instantly, while a friend feels way more comfortable on trumpet or violin. It’s all about what you like and what feels natural to you.

3rd Graders: in April/May you'll get your very own instrument "interview" where your music teacher will help you find the perfect instrument for you.
4th/5th, Middle School & High School students - contact your school music teacher and they will be happy to give you an instrument try-out and help you get started!
